Who is Haussmann?

Baron George-Eugene Haussmann, the first Civil Engineer.

March 27, 1809 - January 11,1891

On June 22, 1853 Baron Haussmann was commissioned by Napoleon III to modernize Paris, which at the time was known as a medieval city. His biggest challenge was to widen avenues and place multiple railway stations that surrounded the entire city for more adequate traffic circulation. By doing so, he transformed over 60% of the buildings in Paris, which are known today as “Hausmmannian style” architecture.

Baron Haussmann was faced with the very difficult task of renovating Paris while keeping its traditional design.  Today, architects and designers are faced with a similar task in using natural stone and implementing it into modern architecture. We draw our inspiration from Baron Haussmann because, like him, we integrate tradition into today's design.
